Trend and Threats against Voter Turnout in Anambra’s November 6 Governorship Election
Exactly 49 days from today, Ndi Anambra will go to the polls to elect a governor to manage the affairs of the state for the next four years. A review of the last four elections in the state showed a deficient level of voter turnout. The only time the state recorded some level of high turnout was in 2017. Even the turnout that year raised a lot of debates because of cases of electoral irregularities. Nigeria’s North West: Lowest Antenatal Visits, Highest Child Mortality Rates
Women in the northern states of Nigeria receive less antenatal care when they are pregnant, unlike the majority of their peers in southern parts of the country; a 2020 Statistical Report on Women and Men by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), every pregnant woman should have at least four(4) antenatal care (ANC) visits to the hospital. On average, 56.8% of women in Nigeria visit the hospital for their antenatal care at least four times during pregnancy. 15 out of the 20 northern states have fewer women attending antenatal clinics than this national average. ZIP, otherwise called constituency projects, are projects executed by the Federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) based on the submission of the members of the federal legislature at both chambers of the national assembly.
